Description
September 30th 2012
My Dad's friend came across an injured Red Tailed Hawk in our home town. He seemed to have a wing injury since he wouldn't fly away. My Dad's friend managed to catch him and immediately went to my Dad to get a hold of me.
I have always been the go to person when it comes to anyone I know coming across anything wild.
I am a graduated Wildlife Technologist and have had training handling birds of prey during my course. I feel so natural handling big birds, I am knowledgeable about how to handle them and how to calm them down so they don't hurt me but more importantly don't hurt themselves.
*NOTE* I want to let anyone who sees this picture know that we didn't put him under any unneeded stress to get this picture. He was immediately put in a dark, warm and quiet place to minimize any stress until we got a hold of the proper people to give him the best care possible.
Lucky, as we called him, is now being taken care of by the wonderful staff at the wildlife rehabilitation centre about an hour's drive from my home town. He is feisty and recovering well, I'm sure eager to return to free skies.
UPDATE: October 8th - I am very happy to say that Lucky was deemed releasable after recovering at the wildlife centre.
